HOW TO GET STARTED IN ARCHERY?

There may be some apprehension that archery will be too expensive or that it will be too hard to learn? Well, don’t worry, because you can get started in archery for little outlay, and there are many resources available at the Sydney Olympic Park Archery Centre to help you learn the skill in a fun atmosphere.

Archery is a wonderful activity and is a form of exercise that can not only help you to enjoy the outdoors but can even relieve stress from today’s hectic way of life. There’s absolutely no reason why you can’t join the millions of archers all round the world and enjoy the sport of the bow and arrow.

You don't need to set aside hours everyday to practice if you want to become a competent archer. In fact, you may be able to hit a target over and over again with as little as an hour of practice, however, as you would expect, some of the more advanced facets of the sport can take years to master. The time commitment is entirely up to you and you shouldn’t be pressurised into committing more time than you want. Whatever you decide, remember to have fun and enjoy it!

You need to determine from the beginning what you would like to do with archery. Do you just want to use your archery skills to hunt with or do you want to be a recreational shooter and maybe even enter archery competitions.

Talk to the staff at the Sydney Olympic Park Archery Centre and try to learn more about archery, so that you can best determine which areas of the sport you would like to pursue. You should participate in the Aim for Fun program to see if the sport suits your needs and then you can decide on what path you wish to take.

For a reasonable cost you get all the equipment provided for your Aim for Fun lesson plus top instruction supervision and the all-important safety induction. You can then decide to take another Aim for Fun program or, if you and your instructor feel comfortable with your progress, you can move through to the Beginner’s Class course. From then on it’s up to you to choose your advancement in archery.

Well you’ve tried the sport, like it, and now want to get your own equipment. The amount of archery equipment available may be overwhelming at first, but the staff at the Sydney Olympic Park Archery Centre will be able to help you choose between the different types of bows, arrows, and accessories without obligation. The on-site Pro Shop carries a good range of archery equipment for both the beginner and the experienced archer and they will also order in special equipment as required.

For all booking and other archery enquiries please call 02 9752 3777or email archery@sopac.nsw.gov.au
