Archery at the Olympic Games
The 1900 Olympic Games in Paris saw the first appearance of Archery as a sport and was followed up with the sport being contested at the St Louis 1904 games, the London 1908 games and the Antwerp games in 1920 there being no games in 1912 due to World War I.
At these early games it was possible for an athlete to compete in several events and to win many medals. This was exemplified by Belgian archer Hubert van Innis, the most decorated archer in the history of the Olympic Games. In the 1900 Paris games and the 1920 Antwerp games he won six Gold and three Silver medals.
Archery was not contested again until the 1972 Munich games with individual events for both men and women with team competition being added to the medal program for the 1988 Seoul games.
